, 2007 – SportVU, a technology company focused on improving
sports coverage and the viewer experience, will demonstrate the newest version
of its product at IBC 2007, held in Amsterdam from September 7 through 11,
on stand 7.830. SportVU combines its sophisticated motion tracking and image
processing software with standard hardware to generate real-time data for
digital, schematic representations of key stats and patterns of the game. Fans
and commentators get a more insightful and interesting game analysis. Gal Oz, CEO of SportVU notes, “SportVU is a real-time, non-intrusive system that tracks players and the ball during team sporting events. It improves the viewer’s experience of the game significantly. The system automatically produces statistical features like speed profiles, accumulated distances, fatigue factors, and coverage maps, all in real-time. Broadcasters can customize the live data parameters. Results can be integrated with the station’s graphics systems to deliver very insightful analytical views. It brings a new dimension of fun, understanding and fan involvement to the game.” The live data from SportVU is used to produce team and personal stats as well as tactical analysis tools which can be broadcast over-the-air and in-stadium. The graphical results enhance the viewing experience and also offer a new platform for sponsorships and interactive advertising. The output can also be adapted for viewing on the web, gaming consoles and mobile handsets. SportVU's technology can also used for automatic indexing of sports video. Televisa, Mexico’s largest broadcaster, has successfully tested SportVU technology for player-tracking during soccer broadcasts. SportVU software is easily adaptable to other sports, including American football, ice hockey, cricket and more.
